Evergreen Catering has,
literally, grown out of the family of Helen Calascione, a mother of four children that lives in central Bristol.
Like all parents, Helen
wanted her children to have a healthy diet. She also wanted them to have a healthy understanding of food in relation to the
environment and developing countries. As a result, she has conducted her weekly shop by bicycle for a number of years in order
to travel between shops and markets to source good quality, ethical ingredients for her family’s meals.
With a very demanding food-tasting
panel at home, ranging in age from 7 to 19, Helen, like other mothers, has had to produce wholesome, delicious food, for a
range of tastes, on-demand. The panel, not just concerned with flavours, have occasionally refused to even try food if they’re
not happy with its appearance.
As a result of all this
experience, Helen has become adept at sourcing ingredients, developing recipes and delivering food in a creative way and so
when her children started school, it seemed like an obvious step to take her cuisine to a wider. audience.
